Nana Kwabena Gyan II, Chief of Mahamo and Chairman of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Expo 2026, has strongly criticised financial institutions operating in Wassa Fiase over what he describes as their lack of support for community development.
Speaking in an interview on Owass FM, Nana Gyan expressed disappointment in the banks within the Tarkwa Nsuaem enclave, accusing them of neglecting the very communities they operate in. According to him, despite submitting proposals to these institutions in December 2025 seeking sponsorship for the Tarkwa Nsuaem Expo 2026, none of the banks responded.
He stressed that the silence from the banks was total, adding that not even basic support such as sachet water was provided for the event.
Nana Kwabena Gyan II further alleged that financial institutions in the Wassa area have consistently failed to contribute to development projects over the years. He cited Ghana Commercial Bank as an example, stating that although the bank has operated in the area since 1992, it has not undertaken any significant community project, including the provision of boreholes.
He argued that while these institutions continue to generate profits from the people of Wassa Fiase, they have shown little commitment to giving back to the communities.
Nana Gyan concluded by describing the attitude of some bank managers as unacceptable, warning that traditional authorities will no longer tolerate what he termed as neglect and indifference toward community development.
