Sophia’s lawyer warns Davido, fans over intimidation

The law firm representing Afrobeats Star Davido’s estranged lover Sophia Momodu in her ongoing child custody case has warned the Nigerian singer and his supporters, following a series of public outbursts on social media.

In a statement released on Monday, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors condemned “all manner of inflammatory public statements” directed at their partner, Ebelechukwu Enedah, arising from her professional conduct in the custody proceedings at a Lagos State court.

The firm stressed that the matter is sub judice and “will be decided by the court alone, on evidence and law,” warning that attempts to intimidate legal practitioners could undermine the rule of law.

“Our attention has been drawn to statements chiefly engineered by a Nigerian Afrobeats artiste, via social media, directed at our partner arising from her professional conduct in a custody matter presently pending before a court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos State.

“If legal practitioners are to be threatened, intimidated, or exposed to harassment outside the courtroom for asking questions, testing evidence, or discharging their professional duty to their clients, then the very foundation of justice is imperiled,” the statement read.

The warning follows a series of posts by Davido last Friday, who expressed frustration over what he described as “insensitive remarks regarding his deceased son” during cross-examination in court.

In a widely circulated Instagram post, he wrote, “Like I said in the courtroom, I pray you never go through what me and my wife have gone through ever, and you were still smiling, smirking.

“You are a wicked human being. You are the worst lawyer ever. I beat you in court. You are not learned.”

The singer later mistakenly implicated gospel artiste, Tosin Bee, prompting a flood of harassment on the musician’s social media pages.

Tosin Bee clarified the situation immediately, stressing that it was a case of mistaken identity, sayiny, “Hello Mr David, I don’t know anything about the post you made. As a matter of fact, my mum went to be with the Lord eight years ago. I guess this is a case of mistaken identity. So sorry you had to deal with this, but my prayers are with you. I love you brother.”

The backlash against Enedah was severe enough that she set her social media account to private, limiting access to followers only.

Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the integrity and safety of legal practitioners.

They called on the Nigerian Bar Association and lawyers worldwide to condemn acts that could compromise judicial proceedings.

“Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors will deploy every lawful measure available to it to resist any attempt to intimidate counsel or undermine judicial proceedings.

“Those who engage in conduct calculated to interfere with the administration of justice will be met with the full consequences provided by law,” the statement partly read.

PUNCH Online had reported that Davido confirmed on X that he would be withdrawing the custody case, clarifying that he never sought full custody.

“I never asked for full custody. I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost, but Imade. There is nothing to celebrate,” he wrote.

He also expressed disappointment with the turn of events in court, saying, ”I’ve decided to drop the case because … until she brought out her last card! MY DECEASED SON! THAT’S A NO NO! Lowest blow!
“My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her … let’s move on. One love!”

Our correspondent had previously reported that Davido filed an originating motion at the Lagos State High Court seeking joint custody of his daughter.
