The Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in Upper Denkyira, Nurudeen Iddrisu, has urged passengers to board vehicles only from approved transport stations as the Christmas season approaches, stressing that this can significantly reduce road accidents.

“Fatigue, overspeeding, and poor judgement account for most of the crashes recorded nationwide,” he said.
Iddrisu explained that drivers who operate from recognised stations are supervised, comply with union regulations, and are encouraged to rest properly before embarking on long journeys. This level of monitoring, he noted, makes them less likely to engage in behaviours that lead to accidents compared to drivers who load passengers along the roadside without oversight.
He also appealed to passengers to take responsibility for their own safety by speaking up whenever drivers speed or exhibit reckless behaviour.
“Road safety is a collective responsibility,” Iddrisu emphasised, calling for greater cooperation between drivers and passengers to prevent avoidable accidents during the busy festive travel period.
