Baffour explained that the Amasaman High Court reduced Agradaa’s original 15-year sentence to a 12-month term, finding the initial punishment excessive.
He elaborated on how the remission system works in Ghana, saying, “When you are handed down a prison term, there’s a remission scheme.
“If you earn it, the term is divided into three. So, the state will take one-third, and she takes two-thirds of it.” This means Agradaa could be released after serving roughly eight months of her 12-month term.
Baffour confirmed that Agradaa has already served about seven months of the new sentence, calculated from her original conviction in July 2025. “So, by the 3rd of March, she should be out,” he said on Starr FM.
While welcoming the reduction, the lawyer expressed reservations about the trial, noting procedural flaws that her legal team would have challenged even if the original sentence had been slightly different.
Agradaa was initially convicted in July 2025 on charges of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence.
She was found to have operated a money-doubling scheme through her ministry, misleading members of the public with false financial promises. The conviction was upheld, but the Amasaman High Court reduced her custodial sentence earlier in February 2026.
