Asante Kotoko have placed caretaker coach Prince Yaw Owusu under the spotlight, urging him to emulate Roberto Di Matteo and deliver results during the remainder of the season.
Owusu was handed temporary charge after Karim Zito resigned following Kotoko’s MTN FA Cup exit to Aduana FC.
Assisted by Mohammed Hamza Obeng, Owusu faces the task of lifting a team that has won just once in 2026 and sits fifth in the Premier League, eight points behind leaders Medeama. The club hopes he can inject new energy and stability.
Communications Director Sarfo Duku told Luv FM the interim technical team will have the opportunity to prove themselves.
“For now, we will allow him to work and see how things unfold,” he said.
“Based on his performance, we will know the next step to take. We expect them to bring their experience, exposure, and knowledge to bear.
“Caretaker coaches have good records. The classical example is Di Matteo at Chelsea,” he added.
“Now that they have been given the chance to be at the helm, they should prove to the world that they have something in them.”
Duku emphasized that experience, knowledge, and exposure will be key as Owusu and Obeng step up.
Their challenge begins immediately with the Super Clash against Hearts of Oak at Baba Yara Stadium on February 15, where a strong performance could set the tone for a revived Kotoko campaign.
