Black Stars technical team must be reinforced – Dr. Patrick Ofori

Former Black Stars psychologist, Dr Patrick Ofori, has implored the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to reinforce the technical team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

After failing to qualify for the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the GFA announced the inclusion of Desmond Ofei, Winfried Schafer and Gregory De Grauwe in January last year ahead of the resumption of the World Cup qualifiers.

After successfully booking a place in the Mundial, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer, Dr Ofori beleives the technical team must be beefed up ahead of the global showpiece.

“I still think they may need to beef it up because football has evolved,” he told Citi Sports.

“There are teams that have analysts whose sole job is to study opposing defenders;  their concentration levels, behaviour and patterns,” Dr Ofori added.

Ghana, drawn in Group L, will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England in Boston and concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.

After exiting at the group phase in Brazil and Qatar in 2014 and 2022, the Black Stars are aiming to leave a positive mark at the World Cup.
