Renowned music executive Mark Okraku-Mantey has revealed plans to produce a personal documentary aimed at shedding light on his often-overlooked contributions to Ghana’s music industry.

Speaking in an interview, Okraku-Mantey noted that many Ghanaians associate his professional life solely with his work at TV3, unaware of his extensive behind-the-scenes influence in music production and artist development. According to him, he is the founder and operator of a record label that played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of several celebrated Ghanaian musicians, including Lord Kenya, and Akyeame, among others.

“I have produced a lot of musicians, but many people do not know this side of my life,” he stated.

His impact on the industry was formally recognised at the Ghana Music Awards, where he won two prestigious honours: Record Label of the Year and Executive Producer of the Year. Okraku-Mantey further disclosed that his consistent dominance in these categories compelled Charter House, organisers of the awards scheme, to revise the criteria governing the awards.

“Because of me, Charter House had to change the criteria for these awards. If they had not done so, I would have continued to win,” he said.

Reflecting on why his achievements remain largely unknown to the public, Okraku-Mantey described himself as a “coded” individual, explaining that his low-profile approach has contributed to the limited public awareness of his work beyond television.

Motivated by this realisation, he says the plans on doing a documentary which will serve as a historical record of his contributions and a means of educating the public about the depth and breadth of his involvement in Ghana’s creative industry.

“I have told myself that I will do a documentary about my life, so people can see some of the things I have done,” he added.
