The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has donated two Toyota Hilux pickup vehicles and nine motorcycles valued at more than GH¢1.83 million to institutions serving communities in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Prestea-Huni Valley Municipalities.

The presentation was made on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Tarkwa-Nsuaem (TNA) Stadium as part of the Foundation’s efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of key public institutions within its host communities.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Secretary of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, Mr. Abdel-Razak Yakubu, said the donation was aimed at supporting institutions responsible for education, agriculture, cocoa extension services and environmental health.

Two Toyota Hilux pickups for education

The Foundation presented two Toyota Hilux pickup vehicles valued at over GH¢1.54 million to the Ghana Education Service (GES).

One of the vehicles will serve the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Education Directorate, while the second will be allocated to the Prestea-Huni Valley Education Directorate.

According to Mr. Yakubu, the vehicles will help the education directorates effectively carry out their responsibilities, including supervision and monitoring, teacher and learner engagement, coordination of educational programmes and examinations such as the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

He explained that the Foundation responded to a request from the Ghana Education Service because of the important role education directorates play in supporting schools and ensuring effective delivery of educational programmes.

Nine motorcycles to support agriculture and health

The Foundation also donated nine motorcycles, together with helmets, to strengthen agricultural extension and community health outreach.

The motorcycles comprise seven Yamaha YBR 125 motorcycles and two Apsonic 200G4 motorcycles, with a total value of GH¢293,600.

    The distribution is as follows:

Three motorcycles to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Prestea-Huni Valley.

Two motorcycles to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Tarkwa-Nsuaem.

Two motorcycles to the Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED) of COCOBOD in Tarkwa-Nsuaem.

One motorcycle to the Environmental Health Department in Prestea-Huni Valley.

One motorcycle to the Environmental Health Department in Tarkwa-Nsuaem.

The motorcycles are expected to improve mobility for agricultural extension officers, cocoa extension workers and environmental health personnel working across communities.

For the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Foundation said the intervention would facilitate more farm visits and closer attention to oil-palm farmers.

For COCOBOD’s CHED, the motorcycles are expected to enable officers to extend their services further into cocoa-growing communities, while the Environmental Health Departments are expected to benefit from faster responses to health concerns, disease surveillance and community emergencies.

    Foundation highlights US$113 million investment

Mr. Yakubu disclosed that the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has invested more than US$113 million in its various intervention areas over the years.

He said more than US$16.18 million of the investment has been channelled into education programmes and initiatives.

The Foundation’s areas of intervention include education, health, agriculture, water and sanitation, infrastructure and enterprise development.

Its education interventions, according to the Executive Secretary, include scholarships, infrastructure development, capacity building, reading programmes and other initiatives aimed at improving learning outcomes and creating opportunities for young people.

    Support for agriculture and livelihoods

The Executive Secretary also highlighted some of the Foundation’s agricultural interventions, including the Community Oil Palm Project (COPP) and the Cocoa Farmers Support Programme (CoFaS).

He said the latest donation builds on the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to support farmers and strengthen agricultural development within its host communities.

He also referenced the Tarkwa Prisons Agro-Support and Empowerment Initiative, implemented in partnership with the Ghana Prisons Service, which uses oil-palm production to promote food security, skills development and livelihood opportunities for beneficiaries.

Commitment to creating value beyond mining

Mr. Yakubu said the Foundation’s interventions are designed to complement the work of government institutions and address gaps that affect service delivery in communities.

He noted that the Foundation views itself as a partner to the institutions operating within its host communities and expressed confidence that the donated vehicles and motorcycles would be put to effective use.

The latest intervention brings the combined value of the two Toyota Hilux pickups and nine motorcycles to more than GH¢1.833 million.

The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation said its broader objective remains to support initiatives that improve the lives of people in its host communities and “create enduring value beyond mining.”
